These last days we have seen on TV and read in the news about the Typhoon that hit the Philippines.  The USA is also experiencing an unusual amount of  tornadoes in the Midwest and these storms producing tornado activity are moving towards the east coast. They are a major disaster covered by the world press.

Yesterday a cyclone caused a major disaster in the island of Sardinia. A huge quantity of rain  and high winds caused floods all over the island. The town of Olbia (Terranoa in Sardinian) was like a bomb of rain according to the mayor.

As of this moment there are 18 people reported  dead. It is not yet certain, for there could be more. During the first hours after a disaster there is always a lot of confusion.

Why?  Is there fault of the way of life of modern people causing this? Global warming? No respect for the nature? (Greed makes people build too much in unsafe places.  Infrastructures like roads and bridges are not well maintained.

Many questions will be asked and investigations will take place later, as always.

As I am a Sardinian, I would like to post an old prayer used when the sky seemed to come down on one’s heart.

Sant’Abrara e Santu Jaccu

Bosu portais is crais de lampu

Bosu portais is crais de xelu

No toccheis filu allenu

ne in domu ne in su sattu

Sant’Abrara e Santu Jaccu

  • “God Through Anne Terri With The Holy Spirit: This has been a week of historical weather. I Agree, that they need to think before modernizing areas without thought. The floods are more severe this way. As I Shared earlier, Saudi Arabia is also experiencing heavy weather. AMEN”

  • I think automatically of you when I saw the infos at the TV today . What a disaster! It’s a pity and I have compssion for those infortunate people .
I watched the images . They are frightening.

ps :Tu as de la famille encore là-bas? I hope thet have been preserved .

  • I wonder if there’s a single place on this planet for which this was not an annus horibilis. I read that the whole island has been swept by the cyclone, so I was wondering if Turri has suffered much damage, especially at the intersection of via Martini and via San Daniele. Sardinia being an island, its people must feel, like all islanders, a strong sense of belonging. Even in Cagliari, even if they had no deaths (I think) I’m sure they were devastated as much as their fellow islanders from Olbia.

  • Turri has not been hit by flood. The little stream is not very close to the village and the gentle hills are not hallowing great amount of water to flood. The land is also well kept, that helps to absorb a lot of water. In the regio of the Medio Campidano a couple of small towns have been badly flooded: Uras and Terralba. The beach of the poetto in Cagliari, once one of the most beatiful beaches I’ve seen, doesn’t exist anymore.(Too many mistakes made by mankind). Sardinians have a lot of courage and they help each other a lot. Sense of belonging as you said. I’ve read in Facebook that people from Turri are organizing groups to go help.
The weather is going nuts. A cyclone of this size in Sardinia is unheard of. Now it is snowing too to make things worse.
