These last days we have seen on TV and read in the news about the Typhoon that hit the Philippines.  The USA is also experiencing an unusual amount of  tornadoes in the Midwest and these storms producing tornado activity are moving towards the east coast. They are a major disaster covered by the world press.

Yesterday a cyclone caused a major disaster in the island of Sardinia. A huge quantity of rain  and high winds caused floods all over the island. The town of Olbia (Terranoa in Sardinian) was like a bomb of rain according to the mayor.

As of this moment there are 18 people reported  dead. It is not yet certain, for there could be more. During the first hours after a disaster there is always a lot of confusion.

Why?  Is there fault of the way of life of modern people causing this? Global warming? No respect for the nature? (Greed makes people build too much in unsafe places.  Infrastructures like roads and bridges are not well maintained.

Many questions will be asked and investigations will take place later, as always.

As I am a Sardinian, I would like to post an old prayer used when the sky seemed to come down on one’s heart.

Sant’Abrara e Santu Jaccu

Bosu portais is crais de lampu

Bosu portais is crais de xelu

No toccheis filu allenu

ne in domu ne in su sattu

Sant’Abrara e Santu Jaccu

Saint Barbara and  Saint James

You have the keys of the lightning

You have the keys of the sky

Don’t arm other sons

not at home nor in the land
